Frequently asked questions
What are the advantages of regular visits to the dentist?
Healthy Mouth, Healthy Body
Regular visits to the dentist offer significant benefits. Not only do these visits help maintain oral health, but they also contribute to overall well-being. Your mouth is a window into your body’s health, and dental problems can mirror issues in other parts of your body.
Preventative Dental Care
Routine dental check-ups allow your dentist to foresee and pre-empt potential dental issues. They can detect early signs of dental decay, gum disease, or other dental abnormalities that may require dental treatment. Regular cleanings can prevent such issues from escalating.
Immediate Response to Dental Emergencies
Emergencies can occur unexpectedly. Regular dental visits ensure that such crises, whether it’s a severe toothache, lost filling, or a cracked tooth, are managed promptly and effectively, avoiding unnecessary pain and discomfort.
Comprehensive Care for All Your Dental Needs
Consistent dental visits mean your dentist knows your oral history and can provide personalised care for all your dental needs. Having this level of familiarity enables your dentist to make informed decisions for your oral well-being.
What are the reasons for dental pain?
Tooth Decay
One of the most common causes of dental pain is tooth decay, which can lead to cavities. If not addressed promptly, it could lead to a dental emergency requiring more complex treatments.
Gum Disease
Gum disease, or periodontal disease, can also result in dental pain as it inflames the gums and may lead to tooth loss in advanced stages.
Tooth Abscess
A tooth abscess, a severe infection in or around the tooth, can cause intense, persistent pain. If left untreated, it can become a significant dental emergency and may necessitate dental surgery.
Impacted Wisdom Teeth
Impacted wisdom teeth can cause considerable pain as they struggle to break through the gums. They may necessitate surgical removal if they cause discomfort or disrupt the alignment of other teeth.
Teeth Grinding or Clenching
Many people unknowingly grind or clench their teeth, especially during sleep, leading to toothache and jaw pain. Regular dental check-ups can help identify this condition early and suggest appropriate interventions.
Tooth Sensitivity
Dental pain can be caused by tooth sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures. This can be due to worn enamel or exposed tooth roots and should be assessed by a dentist.
Note: Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
